Occam's razor is the principle that, of two explanations that account for all the facts, the simpler one is more likely to be correct. It is applied to a wide range of disciplines, including religion, physics, and medicine.
So let’s apply it to Indian culture of 2020. Specifically to the arguments of those who continue to support Narendra Modi despite understanding that all is not well with the country. After all, these people swear by logic.
Here are two options. You tell me what is more likely.
The students’ protests, the farmers’ protests, protests by government employee and even members of Parliament, protests by sitting Chief Ministers, protests by academics, criticism by former judges, protests by journalists, criticism by international media, and even protests by political allies of the BJP - all of this is part of a great grand conspiracy to attack the Modi government.
Modi is doing something wrong.
If your clear answer is option 1, please feel free to leave right now and have as nice a day as it is possible to have in times like this. If your answer is option 2, please take some time to put into words what the BJP might be doing wrong.
Is it the way they have chosen to sow discord into Indian society instead of making attempts to unite us all in these times of adversity?
Is it the way they have alienated their own allies by allegedly not consulting them on key decisions and Bills?
This list is long and therefore, only a snippet of these failings will have to suffice for the purposes of this post.
Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes said, “Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.”
Thing is, the situation we are faced with right now is not even very improbable. It is in fact more than probable. It is more than possible. It is reality that is visible plainly when you look around after taking off your privilege-tinted glasses. And increasingly, it is becoming visible even through privilege-tinted glasses.
