Why can’t the Mahabharata epic be kept in a home?

As someone who has has had multiple copies of the Mahabharata in every house he has ever lived in, I can tell you that it can indeed be kept in a home.

There is a silly superstition that has been in circulation for a long time. It says that because the principle theme of the Mahabharata is a family feud, keeping the book in a home will cause fighting among those who live there.

This is illogical of course. And it’s doubly unfortunate because the Mahabharata is one of the greatest and most significant works of literature ever composed. Assigning negative magical properties to it is not only against common sense, it is also a a disrespectful statement against books.

We need more people reading books, not less.
